There are countless mistakes you need to avoid when moving. For example, if you don't submit a change of address form at least 14 days prior to the big move, then your mail may end up in the wrong hands. There's nothing worse than a moving mistake that could follow you to your new home, which is why it's important to hire the right moving company to help you out.

Because even if your moving company doesn't rip you off, there are still so many things that can go wrong during a whole house move. If you're worried about a moving company fiasco, here are a few red flags that you should steer clear of when hiring a moving company.

No Internet Presence
The Internet is an extremely useful resource when you're searching for a moving company, and in more ways than one. If you can't find a company online or their website looks like it's from 2003, then you need to steer clear. Reputable residential movers will have a strong online presence, which should include some reviews and social media profiles.

Full Payment Demands
If a commercial or residential moving service wants you to pay in full before the move, that's a huge red flag. Until service has been provided, you shouldn't be obligated to do anything other than possibly make a small down payment.

Poor Reviews
When you're searching for a moving and storage company's website, search for reviews as well. If you can't find a few good ones in a sea of negative comments, then it's safe to say that's a moving company you'll probably want to avoid now and in the future.

Refusing a House Call
If a company is packing and moving items in your house, it's safe to say they should probably visit your house to assess the situation. How can they know what they'll be dealing with if they don't visit? This is a major red flag to look out for.

Licensing
No matter where you're moving, the company helping you needs to have a valid license and the insurance to do their job. If the company can't provide proof of these things, then they're not a company you want to be working with.

Moving can be a hectic time, but don't let the stress blind you to glaring issues with a moving service.
