4 Things You Need to Update If Your Business Is Changing Locations
Moving your business can be an exciting time, especially if you’re growing into a larger space. It can mean that your company is doing well and it’s time for an upgrade, or maybe you believe your current location isn’t sufficient.
Whatever the case may be, there are a few things you should remember to update when you move your business to a new location.
Change of address online
Your company information can be found on numerous pages on the internet, and if you don’t update them when you move then you’ll have a lot of confused customers. Sites like Google, Angie’s List, Yelp, and more will all need to be manually changed to reflect your new address. Yes, this can often take some time but it is an essential part of relocating your business.
Keep your phone number
When you move, it can sometimes be difficult to retain your old phone number. Often when you change locations to a new town, they will ask you to get a new number. If this is the case, see if you can’t still keep your old one as well. This way if people call the old number, you can have those calls forwarded to the new one. As people call you, be sure to let them know that you’ve moved locations and have a new number.
Let the government know
You’ll also need to update the government to your change of address as well. This includes taxing and licensing organizations, as well as the post office. You’ll want to do this well before you actually move, about two weeks prior. If you wait later than 14 days, your mail could end up in someone else’s hands, which could lead to company and employee information being exposed to unauthorized people.
Notify payment entities
Once you notify your bank that your company address has changed, any preauthorized automatic payments that you might have set up through your credit card or account won’t go through. You’ll need to let any website or company that handles any of your automatic payments that your address has changed.
It’s also important to remember to hire commercial movers for businesses. Even if you’re a relatively small company, there are small office moving services available to help you change locations.
